Co-curricular
Excursions
During the year, classes attend excursions that introduce different ways of learning and enhance the children’s experiences and knowledge of subjects covered in class. Examples include Sovereign Hill, Melbourne and Werribee Zoos, Melbourne Planetarium, Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, Reptile Encounters, Ballet and Opera Australia.
On-site visits vary in format and may be interactive presentations by visiting men and women in our community who are accomplished in their chosen field, such as scientists, cultural leaders and performers.
Our approach is to link excursions and on-site visits to an area of investigation within the classroom.
Camps
At Erasmus, we provide the opportunity for Years 4, 5 and 6 students to experience a creative and diverse Camp program. These programs provide opportunities for students to develop respect for others, themselves and the environment; self-esteem, leadership, self-motivation and an appreciation of the world around them.
Year 4: Camp Manyung
Year 5: Leadership Camp
Year 6: Ski Camp at Mt Hotham
Years 5 and 6: Canberra Experience (every second year)
The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think — rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men.
