A Very Warm New Staff Welcome To Ms Tulloch
Hello, wonderful Erasmus community!
My name is Sophie Tulloch and I am the Year 1 teacher this year. Although this is my first full year teaching at Erasmus, I was lucky enough to have completed one of my Monash University professional placements here with the amazing Miss Sparke as my mentor. In the month I spent at Erasmus, I fell in love with the warmth of the community, the kindness and politeness of the children and the knowledge, skill and collegiality of the staff. I so hoped that one day I would be fortunate enough to be a part of the Erasmus teaching team long-term – and now here I am!
I am so excited to be a part of the Erasmus community in 2023 as I am passionate about well-being and I believe that the holistic approach that Erasmus brings to educating young people, where all aspects of the child are considered, fosters wellbeing in a genuine way. I am a strong believer in the value of meditation for calming and focusing the mind and body and I have been amazed since being here at the soothing effects that the daily recitations and pauses have on staff and students alike.
In my first couple of weeks at Erasmus I have been loving learning new things from all of the staff and students. I am astonished every day at how open-minded and thoughtful the Erasmus community is. Listening to students make insightful comments on all manner of complex topics has highlighted to me how important and effective the philosophical focus is across the school.
This year I am really looking forward to philosophy lessons as I see myself as a lifelong learner and I am always looking to grow my worldview and mindset. Additionally, I cannot wait to watch my class grow as learners as we travel the journey from Prep to Year 2 together.
A bit about me; I am extremely passionate about growth mindset and focused my Education Honours research project around how to foster a growth mindset in Primary school students. I am so excited to put some of the latest educational research into practice this year and help all learners in my room to grow their self-confidence and believe that if they work hard, they can achieve anything. I am also very interested in Indigenous History and studied for a Bachelor of Arts through my double degree which majored in Indigenous Cultures and Histories. I am looking forward to exploring this complex area of history with students in my class this year.
I have a beautiful tabby cat called Duncan who is my beloved fur baby. I love going on walks in nature and I have been loving getting to know the Hawthorn area through my afternoon wanders.
I am so excited to spend 2023 with the Erasmus team. I look forward to meeting more of the community in the year ahead. Thank you so much for warmly welcoming me into this wonderful school of ours.
